Welcome to the July edition of Project LifeSail Campaign newsletter.
If You Can Control the Wind, Please Call Me.
I'm serious, start dialing. I'll pay hard cash to anyone who can control the wind. I've been looking for it and it seems to be nowhere near the city of Portland, at least when I'm ready to sail. You can control almost every aspect of sailing and race preparation except for that oh so critical component, Mother Nature. I'm relatively sure my phone won't be ringing of the hook anytime soon.
It's another lesson learned on this project. If you can't control something then you focus on what you can control and you move on. For now that means rebuilding winches, working on sponsorship packages (see the Sponsorship and Donation sections below), and talking with potential sponsors.
Not being able to control elements around you can be an inconvenience, as in my case, or a momentary white-knuckle proposition for those of you who have been in an airplane when it hits a wind pocket. When what's out of your control is the health of your baby you are talking about the difference between life and death. Read the Harvey's story about their child, James Bain, and his struggle at birth more than 28 years ago. It's another example of why the great work done by the March of Dimes really needs to be supported.
News for the Month of July
- Family of the Month: In 1977, Virginia Harvey and her husband Steve had to deal with elements they couldn't control when their son was born 13 weeks early at 2.7 lbs. At that time, a baby at that weight simply wasn't expected to live. Twenty-eight years later her son went to an anniversary party for all premature babies born in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Medical College of Virginia. Thanks to Patricia Vaughan for referring the Harveys to Project LifeSail.
- Sponsorship Packages: 6 sponsorship options, one great cause. Let us know which one works best for you.
- Video Clips: From sailing to maintenance, we've started to capture some of the insanity on video. See some of what we've been up to for the past couple of months (scroll to bottom of page).
